Parking spaces update

Following publishing the Traffic Order on 05 June for the parallel crossing (25-016A), B&NES then published a further Order (ref 25-016B) on 19 Jun. Both of these show changes on Bradford Rd between the fish shop and Combe Rd, compared to now.

But the two TROs are contradictory:

  • TRO 25-016A labels the new crossing facility a “Parallel Crossing” — a legally defined crossing type that accommodates both cyclists and pedestrians. TRO 25-016B, however, refers to a “Zebra Crossing”

  • 016A and 016B propose different extents of waiting restrictions (double yellow lines) on the southern kerbline of Bradford Road. Version A removes all unrestricted parking, Version B retains a short section.
  • 016B mentions the removal of a “signal crossing” that does not in fact exist at this location.
  • The PDF for the Map and for the site notice for B https://www.bathnes.gov.uk/sites/default/files/public-notice-uploads/25-016B%20Site%20Notice.pdf are both watermarked as a Draft, further adding to lack of clarity.

These discrepancies materially affect residents’ understanding of parking loss, knock-on effect to surrounding streets, access impact, and property servicing, yet no explanatory note accompanies the changes. The lack of clarity has direct implications for the validity of public responses: residents who submitted objections to 25-016A may have based their comments on design elements that have changed — without any notification or opportunity to amend or resubmit.

Additionally TRO25-015 is issued, which adds further DLYs in Combe Rd and Westerleigh Rd, causing further dislocation of parked cars.

Possible objection wording:

I repeat my comments made previously to 016A regarding parking displacement: as follows [copy/paste here] - reinforced by the further reduction in parking in Combe Rd and Westerleigh Rd.

I repeat my request for the amount of space given to parking arrangements on this part of Bradford Rd to remain unchanged.

I request that the Council withdraw all of the above mentioned TROs and restate them in a coherent manner and at the same time so that all affected people have an equal opportunity to respond to them.
